Caressant Care was founded in 1975 with a 60-bed Nursing Home in Woodstock, Ontario. We now own and operate 15 Nursing Homes and 10 Retirement Homes (which are all adjoined to a Nursing Home).
Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Homes are located primarily in small towns in Ontario. Many residents are friends, neighbours and even family members of our staff. This small town atmosphere is evident by the care, respect and helpfulness shown by all Caressant Care staff.
About the Opportunity
Caressant Care is seeking Personal Support Workers to join our accomplished team of professionals at our 163-bed long term care home in Woodstock, Ontario. Under the supervision of the Registered Staff, you will provide personal care and selected nursing measures necessary to maintain the physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being of our residents.
As Personal Support Worker, your duties would include:
• Performs, to an acceptable standard of skill and responsibility, those functions which provide
for the basic care of residents.
• Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting changes in the resident’s physical
and emotional condition. Knows the guidelines for care for his/her assigned residents as
outlined in the care plan and provides care accordingly.
• Participates in the overall restorative and activation process developed by the facility to
promote the well-being and independence of each resident;
• Performs personal care to enhance the comfort and safety of the resident in accordance with
established standards, policies, and procedures;
• Assists with the maintenance of records reflecting each resident’s condition, care and
specific treatments, including food & fluid intake, daily care records and restraint records.
Documents care on POC;
• Maintains effective communication and good human relations with residents, families and
staff of other departments, using the appropriate lines of communication;
• Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and personnel;
• Shares responsibility for the care of the equipment in the facility and the personal belongings
of the residents as assigned. Assists with sorting personal clothing in clothing cart &
distribution when necessary;
• Recognizes safety hazards and promotes a safe environment for residents and staff by
following established policy and procedures and reporting hazardous situations in a timely
fashion.
The ideal candidates for our team will have the following qualifications and skills:
• PSW Program Certificate or Diploma that meets the appropriate standards established by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association, preferred;
• First Aid Certificate would be an asset;
• Knowledge and experience in elderly care planning systems and documentation required,
• Able to accept verbal and/or written direction
• Able to cope with physical and emotional demands of the job
• Good interpersonal skills;
• Good communication skills (able to read and write in the English language)
• Geriatric, long term care experience beneficial
• Proof of double vaccination
What we are offering:
• Starting rate of pay is $20.81 per hour + $3.00/hr enhancement, with terms and conditions of employment per the Collective Agreement.
• Work hours: 40 hours per week
