PACE LAW FIRM IS HIRING!
We are growing and looking for an HR Generalist to join our team!
Pace Law Firm is Looking for a Human Resources Generalist who will be responsible for various HR functions and providing comprehensive HR services to employees and management. This position requires a strong understanding of HR practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
HR activities will include the employee life cycle of activities with a primary focus on employee relations, compliance, and assisting in administering payroll, benefits, and maintenance of HR records through HRIS, recruitment and staffing, This role will be reporting to the Vice President.
Kindly note that this is a stand-alone position and would be responsible for the HR services of the entire firm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Employee Relations:
• Serve as first point of contact for employees regarding HR-related queries, concerns, and grievances.
• Work to resolve issues, facilitate communication, and ensure a positive work environment.
• Address employee concerns, conduct investigations, and provide guidance on employee relations matters.
• Assist in developing and implementing employee engagement initiatives.
• Advise and coordinate closely with senior management on issues relating to HR risk management.
HR Administration:
• Manage HRIS (Humi), maintain and update employee records and HR database.
• Prepare HR-related documents, such as employment contracts, offer letters, performance improvement plans and employment letters.
• Assist in processing weekly payroll for all employees via Humi.
• Handle employee benefits administration, including enrolment and inquiries.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations.
Talent Management:
• Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and create job descriptions.
• Source, screen, and interview candidates to ensure a qualified talent pool.
• Conduct reference checks and background verifications.
• Assist in the onboarding process for new hires, including orientation and paperwork.
• Draft Termination letters and conduct terminations accordingly.
• Hire and oversee Articling and Co-op students according to firm’s requirements.
• Establish and maintain working relations with universities and colleges to ensure smooth operation of articling, co-op and summer student rotational programs.
• Audit licensing requirements for legal professionals to ensure compliance.
• Research and develop total rewards strategy to ensure a competitive edge in the labour market.
• Coordinate and assist with performance management processes, such as goal setting, performance evaluations, and feedback sessions. Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance-related matters and help develop strategies for employee development and improvement.
Health & Safety:
• Participate and support the Company’s Health & Safety committee, conducting accident investigations and recommending modification to current policies for improvement.
• Assist in developing and implementing Health and safety training programs.
• Be the Chief Fire warden and provide training for other fire wardens.
• Collaborate with building management and facilitate fire drills.
HR Policies and Procedures:
• Assist in developing and updating HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practices.
• Communicate policies to employees and provide guidance on policy interpretation.
• Contribute to the development of employee handbooks and HR-related communications.
HR Reporting and Analytics:
• Generate HR reports and analyze data to identify trends and insights.
• Preparing regular HR reports, presentations, and summaries for senior management and key stakeholders.
• Assist in HR metrics tracking, including turnover rates, recruitment statistics, and training evaluation.
• Communicating findings, trends, and metrics effectively to drive informed decision-making
Training and development:
• Assist in developing training programs for different legal departments including but not limited to ethics training, software/systems training, EDI training etc.
• Plan and administer training sessions
Diversity & Inclusion:
• Plan and organize diversity and inclusion events.
• Be part of the social committee and recommend actions to promote equity, diversity and inclusion.
General:
• Manage agile projects as per company requirements
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE / REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• College Diploma in Human Resources or Business Administration
• Good English language skills
• Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) Designation preferred or working towards
• Solid understanding of HR information systems, prior experience with Humi preferred.
• Three to five years of progressive experience in a HR Generalist role within Legal industry preferred.
• Solid understanding of HR practices, employment laws and regulations in Ontario.
• Excellent computer skills using MS Office suite. (Intermediate proficiency in Excel)
• Understanding of Law society of Ontario’s compliance regulations, Licensing requirements, and articling program an asset.
• Ability to rapidly learn and perform tasks related to the department, policies, rules, functions, procedures, or processes.
• Strong attention to detail, confidentiality and ability to work in high-volume environments, meeting multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to lead and provide effective and timely feedback.
• Excellent communication, conflict resolution and analytical skills.
• Work independently or as part of a team.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees, lawyers and management.
• Knowledge of agile project management methodology.
COMPENSATION
• $65,700.00 annual for 35 hours of work per week
• Permanent, on-site, full-time position (Location of work: 191 The West Mall, 11th Floor, Toronto, ON, M9C 5K8)
